About me

Life is all about passion; it is the world given to us so that we can fill it with objects: it does not matter what other people think about them, but what history they carry with themselves. Take writing for example. It is a story of developing a passion for non-existant people who you know more intimately than you do yourself, a story of life we would maybe choose for ourselves. Art is a fickle mistress- you can't choose what talent you're given; hands of a painter, eye of a photographer, or a mind of a writer. But we are the ones who choose to follow it.

One ought, every day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words,Goethe

This journal is a mix of everything that I am, think, and do: reviews, thoughts on various subjects, poetry, fanfiction, original stories, some funny things found around the Internet, recommendations of fanfiction and fanvids, translations, a little of personal affairs and so on. If you're looking just for fiction and poetry- no randomness and personal things- go to links and visit my writing journal.

Shameless self-pimping: about me and my fics on crack_van

Imber [Latin: rain, storm] :
Jabiim, Jabiim, Jabiim; if you're not familiar with the EU that came out between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith then all you really need to know about Jabiim is that it was bad, the Republic got their asses handed to them and it was probably one of the lowest points of the entire Clone Wars. The amount of dead Jedi at the end of the battle could easily equate the battle to more of a massacre; Anakin was one of the few that survived Jabiim, and it was believed at the time that Obi-Wan was among the dead.

Anakin was still a Padawan when these events took place, and yenneffer was absolutely perfect in her portrayal of someone who is still so young, and who has to lock away his grief in order to fight on. The author's prose was so poetic, and haunting; the whole fic hit me like a punch in the gut.

Odd Edges :
Yenneffer's writing style is unique among fanfiction authors. She combines prose and poetry to create the most poignant angst and the subtlest darkfics. In Odd Edges, she tells the story of the short period of time during the Clone Wars when Anakin and Obi-Wan, Jedi Knights, were equals - or were they? Like her other fics, this one gives no definite answers, perhaps because there are no definite answers.

The use of second person narrative is discouraged in fanfiction because it's extremely difficult to do well. Yenneffer makes it look easy. The combination of second and third person in Odd Edges breaks the "rules" of writing, but it works. This short fic successfully conveys the emotional intensity and the tragedy of the relationship dynamic between Anakin and Obi-Wan in the prequels.

Yenneffer's stories aren't just stories. They are art.

A Darker Route of Grief :
This author writes incisive prose with more than a touch of dreamy poetry; really, I can think of few authors who go so surely into that Galaxy Far, Far Away. Read this fic which is tagged both 'original trilogy' and 'prequel trilogy' (it's intertrilogy) and look in on Ben's hut at any point in the nineteen years before 0 BBY. The themes described in this fic remain unchanged.
